Joe Michael Callaway

Joe Mike Callaway left his earthly home on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Town Hall Estates in Whitney. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm April 19, 2024, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Prairie Valley Baptist Church in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth and Rev. John Callaway officiating.  A burial will follow at Prairie Valley Cemetery in Whitney.

Joe was born in Hillsboro, Texas on November 30, 1941, to W.L. and Dorothy (Dyer) Callaway. He graduated from Whitney High School and married his High School Sweetheart Gracie Taylor. They started Farmers Insurance Agency together and together worked there for 39 years. They also had 3 beautiful children.

Joe was an avid hunter, fisherman, arrowhead collector and an avid reader. He served on the Whitney ISD school board for 12 years and as the president for part of the time. Joe is a member of the Prairie Valley Baptist Church, serving as deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and a AWANA teacher. He was also a member of the National Guard.

Joe is survived by his wife, Gracie Callaway; brother, Billy Tom Callaway and wife Marilyn; children, John Callaway and wife Melanie, Jill Hall and husband Mike, and Julie Tidwell and husband Monte; 11 grandchildren; Lyndsy Brassell and husband Shane, Stephanie Bentley and husband Heath, Cassidy Callaway and husband Jess, Abby Hennig and husband Fisher, Mikah Tidwell, Michael Callaway and wife Maya, Ben Callaway and wife Abby, Will Callaway, Josh Callaway, Lillie Callaway, Moira Callaway; and 9 great grandchildren, Gage, Colt, Ava Brassell, Beauen, Ford, Dane Hennig, Knox Bentley, Charlotte, Everett Callaway, and 2 more on the way.

We would all like to give a special thank you to Town Hall Estates and Wings Over Texas Hospice for the excellent care and love given to Joe Mike while he was there.
