Raymond Cain Obituary

Ray Cain, 86, of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 25, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro. A burial with full military honors will take place following the service at Peoria Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00PM, Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall.

He was born December 18, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Texas on the Chapman Ranch to Marion and Marie (Upchurch) Cain. Ray was raised by Jessie and Addie Brown in Peoria, Texas, where he also attended school.

In 1958, Ray was united in marriage to Faye (Williams) Cain. He proudly served his country in the Untied States Air Force, where he travelled to many places, including Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tampa, Florida, Alaska,  Great Falls, Montana and Germany. After twenty years in the military, his next venture was over-the-road truck driving. He drove for North American Van Lines for most of his career, recognized multiple times for 1,000,000 (+) miles of professional driving and was known to many as “The Texas Rollin’ Stone.” Many of those miles were spent with his faithful companion and “co-pilot,” Lucky, his beloved cat. During their  journey across America, Lucky would learn more about Ray than he would share with anyone else.

Ray never met a stranger and had a heart as good as gold. He loved sharing his life stories with his friends and family and will be remembered for always having a tune on his lips and a smile on his face.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Faye Cain; infant son, Ronald Cain; son, Billy Cain; infant granddaughter, Katy Faye Vieregge; sisters, Shirley Kelley and Nelda Miller; and brother, Kenneth Cain.

Survivors include son, Mark Lata; daughter Valerie Vieregge and husband, Billy; daughter, Dorothy Tran; grandchildren, Brandi Timbes, Bryan Suter, Kristi Fullerton, David Lata, Billy Cain, Jr., Justin Vieregge, JaLee Crofford, Karson Vieregge, Robert Vieregge, Raymi Vieregge, Christina Tran, Christian Tran and Trevor Tran; sixteen great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Cain; sister, Gladys Greiner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
