Barbara Jean Selking

Barbara Jean Selking, 63, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday evening, October 24, 2019, at Baylor Scott and White-Hillcrest in Waco.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Michael Nemec officiating.  Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born March 10, 1956, in Hampton, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ronald and Norma (Muhlenbruch) Wharton.  Barb grew up in Hampton and attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Latimer, Iowa.  In 1974, she graduated from high school and went on to attend Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska.  Barb received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1978.

On December 28, 1978, she was united in marriage to Andrew Mark Selking, Sr. in Latimer, Iowa.  For 34 years, she taught school at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, retiring in 2012.  Barb was very compassionate about teaching others and touched many lives over the years.  Following her retirement, she and Andy moved from Fort Worth to North Texas Airstream Community (NTAC) in Hillsboro.  Barb loved to travel to the many different airstream rallies all over the country.  A very faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. 

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Andrew Mark Selking, Sr. of Hillsboro; son, Andrew Mark Selking, Jr. and wife, Lauren, of Fort Worth; brother, David Wharton and wife, Lisa, of Mason City, Iowa; sister, Bonnie Wharton and husband, Rick Oudekerk, of Des Moines, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Andrew Mark “Tripp” Selking, III and Annabelle Selking, both of Fort Worth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund, 915 Corsicana Hwy., Hillsboro, TX 76645.
