Jo Nell Blount

Jo Nell Sonnenberg Blount, age 84, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2019, in Fort Worth.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Michael Nemec and Pastor Curtis Schneider officiating.  Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.  Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

The daughter of Otto Harry and Marie (Huse) Sonnenberg, Jo Nell was born on September 22, 1934 near Malone.  She grew up near Honey Flat and started her education in Irene.  In 1952, she graduated from Hillsboro High School and shortly thereafter began her 45 year career in banking.  Most of those years were spent at Hillsboro State Bank and its successor banks, where she served as a bank teller, until her retirement in 1997.  

On January 28, 1955, she and Donald W. Blount were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. After more than 49 years together, Don preceded her in death on July 27, 2004.  Jo Nell was always busy and shared her talents with others.  A renowned cook, she was always baking for family and friends.  Until her eyesight began to wane, she would sew and crochet items such as clothing, drapes and infant blankets for family and others.  

She was also a dedicated Texas Longhorn fan.  For over 30 years, she and Don were season ticket holders, rarely missing a home game during the golden years of the Southwest Conference.  Somehow, she also found time to tend and maintain her lovingly kept yard among her many other activities.  

A long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church, the church was her extended family.  She was very involved in the ministries of the church, serving on many committees through the years.  When she could no longer drive, it was no surprise to see her making her way to services down the sidewalk.  

Jo Nell is survived by her loving son, David Blount and wife, Lisa, and grandson, Drew Blount, all of Fort Worth; one sister, Ginger Battle and husband, Roy, of Southlake; seven nieces; numerous great nieces and nephews; and devoted caregiver, Della Faye Owen.
