John Bernard Quinlan, 89, of Rockwall passed away Friday, January 17, 2020, at Essential Living Residential Care, LLC in Rockwall. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Don McConnell & Rev. Sheri Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughan Cemetery. A visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020, prior to service time at the funeral home.
John was born June 14, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to James J. and Margaret (O’Hern) Quinlan. In 1952, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from North Central College. From 1953-1955, John served his country in the United States Army. He began his working career in 1955 with Western Electric, which later became AT&T, and later transferred to Mesquite in 1969.
On June 23, 1972, John was united in marriage to Dorothy Goss in Ardmore, OK. Following his retirement in 1986, the couple spent 15 great years together before Dorothy preceded him in death on March 12, 2001.
He was of the Methodist faith. John taught Sunday school in various classes at First United Methodist Church in Mesquite from 1980-2007.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; son, Michael Morrison; and daughter Dianne Foster.
Survivors include his daughter, Nila Hopkins and husband, David, of Rockwall; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
