Marie Kolar Obituary

Mrs. Marie Lillie Kolar, 94, of Lubbock passed away on Monday, August 12, at the Windmill Village Nursing Home where she resided. The rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro followed by visitation from 6:30-8:30pm. Mass and celebration of the life of Marie Kolar will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Friday, August 16, at 10 a.m. in Hillsboro followed by Christian Burial immediately after at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery near Abbott.

She was born on August 20, 1924, in Avoca, TX the daughter of Frank and Annie Kutach. She grew up and attended school in Avoca where her and her twin sister played basketball and performed in one-act plays. She also enjoyed playing the trumpet. On September 22, 1941, she married John Vincil Kolar. In 1946, they moved to Hillsboro where they were residents for 57 years. She was an active member of the women’s organization at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro.

All of her grandchildren loved to spend summers and holidays hanging out at the farm with their “Momo” and some of the most favorite past-times were playing Chinese checkers, dominoes, cards and shelling black-eyed peas. She always enjoyed family, social gatherings and polka dancing. Marie devoted her evenings to prayer alongside Johnnie as a faithful Catholic and frequently thanked the Lord above for all His mercy and grace. She was a strong and steadfast follower of Jesus, and in all cases she repeatedly put herself last.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kolar; one son, David J. Kolar; and one sister, Agnes Webb of West.

Survivors include her twin sister, Martha Sulak Gerik of West; two daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Steve Moorhouse of Lubbock and Monica and Alan Wiseman of Melbourne, FL; four granddaughters and their spouses, Kimberly and Drew Abbott of Lavon, Kristy and Jake Combs of Lubbock, Kira and Hector Colon of Windermere, FL, and Kelsey and Alex Leach of Lubbock; as well as nine great grandchildren with one on the way.
