Anna Mae Pirtle Janssen, born on February 19, 1942, to Carlton and Milford Pirtle, peacefully left this world on September 13, 2025. She was a cherished member of her community and a beloved family matriarch.
For many years, Anna served as an administrator at Whitney High School, where she became affectionately known as Miss O by the students whom she guided and supported. Her warm demeanor and commitment to education left a lasting impact on countless young lives.
Anna found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved spending time at the lake, sitting under a willow tree, and keeping a watchful eye as her grandchildren splashed in the water. Her patio was a sanctuary where she would relax and take delight in the beauty of nature, particularly watching cardinals and hummingbirds frequent her feed. Known for her loving heart and radiant smile, Anna's spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her.
A true animal lover, Anna had several dachshunds, including Max, Peanut, and BO, who brought her immense joy. Her passions extended to sports, as she was a staunch supporter of the Oklahoma Sooners, proudly cheering them on throughout the seasons.
Anna’s family was her greatest source of pride. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Janssen; her daughter, Kim Keeney; her son, Craig McCown; and her grandson, Matthew McCown. She is survived by her son, Scott McCown and his wife, Kelly, along with their children, Melanie McCown and Kevin McCown and his wife, Ashlyn, and their children, Kayce and Hallie. Anna is also remembered fondly by her nephews, Klint McCown and his wife, Kallee, along with their children Karsyn, Kross, and Kreed; Kenny McCown and his wife, Hannah, and their children, Cash, Maren, Carter, and Kolby McCown and his wife, Elizabeth. Additionally, she is survived by her stepdaughter, Leslie Becthold and her husband, Don of Cedar Springs, Iowa.
Anna Mae Pirtle Janssen will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and friends and the rich legacy of kindness and warmth she leaves behind. Her graveside service will take place on October 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro, Texas.
