Anselmo Hernandez Landeros (Chemo), 86, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Hillsboro, TX passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, peacefully at his home in Hillsboro. A viewing will be held at 6pm on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Home with rosary being recited at 7:30pm-8pm. Mass of a Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Anselmo was born on April 21, 1939, in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Manuel Hernandez Cruz and Bartola Landeros. After completing preparatory school, at the age of seventeen, Chemo enlisted in the Mexican Army. He served there for two years. He then went on to sign up as a migrant worker via the Bracero's Program during World War II. He was able to travel all over the United States as a migrant agricultural worker where he was able to help support his family. On April 16, 1964, he married the love of his life, Esperanza Hernandez. For fifty-seven beautiful years, they were the true definition of love, loyalty, and devotion - partners in every sense of the word, separated only by death.
In 1978, Chemo brought his family to the United States in search of a better life. He worked as a machinist to provide for his five children - Anselmo Hernandez Jr., Rosa Maria Hernandez, Irma Hernandez Prieto, Ramon Hernandez and Manuel Hernandez. Over the years, the family grew to include twenty-four grandchildren and forty-four great-grandchildren.
Anselmo was a guide, a protector and a friend that loved and taught with wisdom. He took great pride in teaching his children the importance of hard work, integrity, and perseverance. He encouraged them to be people of their word, to be patient and strong-minded, and to always give their best effort - but above all, to love deeply and laugh often. Anyone who knew Chemo would say he was truly one of a kind - full of character, quick with a joke, and always ready to share a funny story.
Anselmo is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Hernandez Cruz and Bartola Landeros; brothers Leonardo Hernandez and Pedro Hernandez; infant daughter, Irma Hernandez; and infant son, Ramon Hernandez.
Anselmo will be missed by his friends and family, but we know he is now reunited with his love, Esperanza. He is at peace with no pain and in the presence of our heavenly father.
