Bobbie Lavern Smith

Bobbie LaVern Smith, 88, of Whitney left her loved ones on December 7, 2019.  The family will hold a celebration of life service at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Huron, where she had been a member all her life.   Pastor Chris Donaho will officiate.

Bobbie was born on September 28, 1931, in Huron to Grady and Chrystine Waits.   She attended Blum schools and was a number one basketball player for the Bobcats.  After graduating at age 16, she moved to Whitney and took a job living at the Whitney Hospital being the night nurse.    She met Cecil Smith and they were married on July 1, 1949.  The Smiths lived on a 160 acre ranch outside of Whitney where they raised Registered Hereford cattle.

Two daughters were born to the Smiths, Rhonda and Renea, 9 years apart, with the same birthday – June 11th.Bobbie went to LVN school, graduating top in her class.   She worked all her life in the Whitney community as a nurse.

She was preceded in the death by her parents, Grady and Chrystine; her husband, Cecil; and son-in-law Mike Watts.

Bobbie is survived Rhonda and John Bass, Renea and John Mullins, Christy Bennett, Allan Bennet and Eli, Trisha Bundock, John Paul Mullins, and Gary and Donna; and Pepper – her pet companion.
