Boyd Epting, 82, of Hillsboro, TX died peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Boyd was born on September 3, 1943, in Hereford, Texas, to George and Beatrice (Watts) Epting. He graduated from Patton Springs High School in Afton, Texas. Boyd joined the US Marine Corps after graduation. He fought two tours in the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart medal. After Boyd was discharged, he went on to become a lineman for a few years, working for various companies. His true passion was as a mechanic for DARR Equipment, where he worked for 15 years. While working a full-time job, Boyd was also enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. He was a member of Line Street Methodist Church in Hillsboro and a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of Hill County. He married Sharon Cockerham in October 2001; she preceded him in death in October 2010. Boyd loved playing games with his sisters, brothers-in-law, and family. He also loved going to his favorite cafes in Whitney to eat breakfast/dinner and was known to give the waitress a good laugh and a tough time.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon, sister Thelma Joyce Conger, brothers Edward and Johnny Epting, nephew Mike Epting, and nephew John Shannon Epting.
Survivors include sisters Doris Fields, Geraldene Lewis Willmon, and husband Dean of Whitney, nephews Wayne Clay, Eddie Conger, Donald Clay, Tommy Epting, and George Lewis, nieces Debbie Tobin-Dewey, DeeDe Meador, Cathy Garcia, Sheila LaMaster, and many great nephews/nieces and great-great nephews/nieces.
Graveside services will be at a later date with Rob Beasley officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Disabled American Veterans.
