Ceph Clarke Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in Whitney, Texas, surrounded by the family and friends he loved so dearly. He was 84 years old.
Born on March 16, 1941, in El Paso, Texas, to Herbert and Beatrice Jones. Ceph grew up with a spirited independence and a lifelong curiosity for how things worked. A true "jack of all trades" and master of several, Ceph was known for his sharp mind, his strong, capable hands, and a quick wit that could light up any room. Whether he was under the hood of one of his cherished hot rods, out on the water fishing, or at a shooting match, Ceph was happiest when he was active and surrounded by his multitude of friends, sharing stories, singing, and telling jokes.
Ceph's greatest legacy is the large, blended family he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lynda Jones, and his children, Scott Jones (and his wife Jill), and Laura Jones. He was a proud grandfather to Troy, Austin, Madison, and Sloane, and a great-grandfather to Thea and Samira. He also embraced his role as a stepfather with open arms, leaving behind Marsha and husband JD, Kurt, Casey and wife Jenifer, and Heather. And his grandchildren Zach (and Christa), Hayden (and Zoe), Jessica, Kody, Kayley, Ryan and Greg, as well as great-grandsons Colton, Emmersyn, and Nolan. Ceph is survived by his brother, Sherman, and was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Beatrice, and his brother "Bud."
His presence-marked by his grit, his craftsmanship, and his laughter-will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ceph's life in Whitney, March 14th, 1pm to 3pm, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Whitney, or to share a memory on his tribute wall. Please visit the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors website. In honor of Ceph's love for the outdoors, memorial contributions may be made to local conservation or youth fishing programs in the Whitney, Texas community.
