Charles Edwin Speights left this world to be with the Lord on February 17, 2026. He passed away peacefully in his sleep in Waco, Tx. A celebration of life will be held for his family and close friends. He wanted family and friends to remember him for who he was in life.
Charles was born on February 27, 1950 in San Antonio, TX to Clarance and Ada Marie Speights. He grew up traveling with his parents and siblings picking cotton at various locations. Charles joined the U.S. Navy in 1969. He ended his tour early due to his father passing to help his mother take care of his younger siblings. He met Cathaline Ann Ward in Nocona, Tx. They were married on June 18, 1971 the same year they met and stayed beside each other until his passing. They moved to Whitney, TX in 1983 where he started his business Speights Septic Service. He maintained this business with his sons & grandsons until his passing and it will continue on through them.
Charles is survived by wife Cathy Speights, his sons Ernie Speights, Gary Speights and his wife Kyli, Henry Speights, and David Speights all of Whitney, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, sister Sandra Schutes, brother Floyd "Boogie" Speights both of Nocona, Tx, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Billy Speights, Johnny Speights, Alvin Speights, and Wesley Speights, and grandson Kevin Bailey.
Charles once wrote what he believed was the recipe for love. Here is what he wrote: "Take four sons and add four wives- mix well. Make a bunch of grandkids and spread evenly. Add fun and good times together, and enjoy. Will spoil if left alone for a week or so without grandparents."
He was known for his sense of humor and always putting others a head of himself. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend- he will truly be missed.
