Connie Johnson

Mr. Connie Clyde Johnson, 82, of Whitney, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Connie was born on November 4, 1943, in Itasca, to parents Vernie and Bennie Johnson. On October 27, 1972, he married Debbie Childress. They lived in Hillsboro until 1996 before moving to Whitney, where they enjoyed their retirement years.

Connie graduated from Itasca High School and later was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Connie went to work at Harris Electric before devoting his career to public service. For thirty years, he worked for the United States Postal Service, meeting the needs of the Itasca and Hillsboro community. Connie would sell you stamps with a smile or provide an entertaining, quick-witted response while preparing your package to be mailed.

After retiring from the post office, if you were ever looking for Connie, you’d probably find him in one of three places. The first place you should look is outside. More than likely, he was piddling with his tractor, in the garden tending his tomatoes, or feeding the ducks by the pond. Another place to look was with his grandsons, Benjamin and Andrew. Whether attending their games or tournaments, camping together, or simply spending time with them, Connie cherished these moments. One of Connie’s favorite titles was ‘Paw Paw”, and he took great joy in watching his grandsons grow.

Connie also loved being “Dad” to his son, Scott. He was very proud of the man Scott became and treasured the time they spent together through every season of life. Whether offering support, lending a tool, or simply being present, Connie’s love for his family was steady, faithful, and deeply felt.

And if there was one thing everyone knew about Connie, it was how deeply he loved Debbie. The surefire way to find Connie is to look for Debbie first. Throughout their 53 years of marriage, they were always right by each other’s side, enjoying the outdoors, traveling, visiting national and state parks, camping, and spending time with family. Connie was a great husband, Dad, Paw Paw, uncle, and friend and will be missed by many.

Along with his beloved wife Debbie, survivors include his son Scott Johnson, his wife Stephanie, and their children, Benjamin and Andrew, of Hillsboro. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ronnie Childress and his wife, Debra, his sister-in-law Dori Romualdo and her husband Alvin, his niece, Nikki Lee, and nephews, Jeremy Childress, Shane Childress, and Bryce Childress and their spouses and children. He is also survived by many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hill County Paw Pals, 1500 Abbott Ave, Hillsboro, Texas 76645.
