Dale Edwin Moore, Sr.

Dale Edwin Moore, Sr., 95, of Whitney, Texas, went to be with our Savior on October 29, 2026, after a five-month struggle to recover from a broken hip and a bad knee. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on November 28, 2026, at White Bluff Chapel, White Bluff Resort on Lake Whitney, Texas. The service will be officiated by Pastor Dr. Randy Marshall.

Dale was born in a farmhouse on the Moore family home place, north of Mount Vernon, Franklin County, Texas, on August 28, 1931, to John Hoffman and Mary Clifton Moore. He shared a wonderful childhood with his brothers Dewey and Johnny and his pony, Skippy. He was a talented athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball under the legendary Texas Sports Hall of Fame Coach Catfish Smith. In his junior year of high school, 1947-48, both his football and basketball teams went undefeated, and his Mount Vernon Tiger basketball team won the Texas Class A State Championship. In football, he played quarterback; his brother Dewey played center, and his brother Johnny played halfback. The Mount Vernon Tigers won back-to-back championships and, over four years, racked up 43 wins with only 3 season-ending losses. Mother Mary kept a complete scrapbook of all of Dale’s sports accomplishments. His high school coach, Coach Catfish Smith, was his idol. Dale graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1948.

Dale was awarded a football scholarship to attend Southern Methodist University (SMU) in the Spring of 1949. His success at SMU’s football program was legendary, as he would tell it. He formed a lifelong friendship with Raymond Barry and Forrest Gregg, both members of the NFL Hall of Fame. He graduated from SMU in 1953 with a degree in Business Administration. While at SMU, he joined the Air Force Reserve. After graduation, he was called to active duty with the Air Force in 1953 and was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1957 as a Captain.

During Dale’s time in San Angelo, he met and fell in love with Judy Williams Moore. They were married on June 29, 1958. They lived in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to Dallas, Texas. Judy and Dale worked together selling and servicing health care insurance. The couple led an adventurous life together, traveling with their best friends Joy and Billy Jack Meredith. Dale sold his company and retired before moving to Whitney, Texas, in 2000. Dale enjoyed a round of golf with friends, telling stories, hunting, fishing trips, and spending time with his family. He was a unique and irreplaceable person who will be dearly missed by his surviving family: son, Dale Edwin Moore, Jr. of Whitney, Texas; grandson, Tucker Moore, and his wife Kymberlee, their son and Dale’s great-grandson, Walker Gray Moore of George Town; and grandson, Augustus (Gus) Aikman Moore of El Paso, and daughter-in-law, Karen Moore of Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Judy and Dale were both members of White Bluff Chapel. Judy passed on December 31, 2004. The entire Moore family would like to express their deepest thanks to the entire White Bluff Community for their love and support during Dale’s final days. The family also asks that any sympathy gifts be donated to the White Bluff Chapel Building Fund, 1072 White Bluff Drive, Whitney, TX 76692.
