David Bennefield

David Colonel Bennefield, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in Hillsboro, Texas. Visitation will take place at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Bell Springs Cemetery, Abbott, Texas. Graveside services will start at 2:30 PM, after the visitation.

David lived a full and hardworking life, wearing many hats over the years. He began his career at Bennett's Grocery in Hillsboro, later worked as a delivery driver for Pepsi, and eventually became the owner of D&H Gulf. He was also a dedicated rancher and served in security-always finding ways to support his family and community through honest work and strong values.

A proud veteran, David served in the United States Navy from January 1956 to November 1960. He carried the discipline and pride of his service throughout his life.

A man of faith, David was a devoted member of Abbott Baptist Church, where he found strength, fellowship, and purpose.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Audrey Bennefield-Jackson, and her husband, David; grandsons, Challen "Rocky" Austin and his partner, Taylor West, and David Trey Jackson; and great-grandson, Harrison Austin. He also leaves behind his sister, Brenda Bennefield; brother, Dan Bennefield, and his wife, Barbara; nephew, Mark Porter; and nieces, Karen Bixler and Teresa Porter.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hazel Bennefield; his first wife, Gloria Coffman, the mother of his daughter; and his second wife, Hazel Bennefield.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, deep love for his family, and enduring faith. His presence and wisdom will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
