Delores Jo "JoJo" Clinkscales passed away in Hillsboro on August 28, 2025. She is now in her Heavenly home and in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jo was welcomed into the world by Claude Wesley and Inez Newman on May 25, 1941, in Houston, Texas. She was raised in Moody and graduated from Temple High School in 1959. She married Milton Alexander on September 16, 1960. They eventually made their home in Hillsboro until his death on April 14, 1983. While attending Walnut Street Baptist Church, she met Gary Clinkscales with whom she fell in love and married on December 8, 1984. Jo and Gary were happily married for 41 years and lived in Hillsboro all of those years. Jo began working for Walmart in Hillsboro in 1977 when the store first opened. She worked as a department manager for 28 years and made many lifelong friends with co-workers and customers. After retiring, she and Gary provided daycare in their home to a number of children. It was a joy that they both shared, and they loved and adored the children that they nurtured, including their own grandchildren. It was truly a labor of love. As a child, she was called JoJo, but she went by Jo during adulthood until her grandson Trey started calling her JoJo as a toddler. The name stuck, and she has been known in the community as JoJo since.
JoJo is survived by her husband Gary, her brother Ronnie Newman and wife Vickie of Inez, her daughter Kelli Alexander Holmes and husband David of Hillsboro, her step-son Jason Clinkscales and wife Karen of Irving, her step-son Johnathan Clinkscales of West, her grandchildren Trey Holmes of Fort Worth, Avery Holmes Flowers and husband Liam of Dallas, and Layne Clinkscales of West, and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton Alexander, sister Raynez Zuma, brother John "Booker" Shearin, sister Jean "Flapper" Lacey, and step-daughter April Clinkscales. She was a member of Peoria Baptist Church.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Chris Teague and the staffs of Hill Regional Hospital and Town Hall Estates for their compassionate care of JoJo in the last weeks of her life.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
