Dorothy Jean (Anders) Bruno, 86, of Whitney, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, after a difficult illness at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney. Graveside services will held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro, with Rev. Allie Davenport, officiating. Visitation will be held from 7-9 PM, Friday, February 6, 2015 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Dorothy was born on January 16, 1929, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to James Monroe and Georgia Loraine (Gibbons) Anders. The oldest daughter, she was a sister to brothers, James and Mel and sister, Joyce Lee and grew up in West Texas and New Mexico. In May of 1944, she married Bart H. Moody and they had four children, Barta J. Krentz, Jerry Wayne Moody, Sr., Thomas Samuel Moody and Yolanda Lee Gregory.
During her lifetime, she worked as an accountant for Lakewood Country Club before resigning to take care of her mother who had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. The time spent with her mother gave her a love of nursing and she took a course in medication and earned her license, eventually working at several nursing homes and providing care to individuals. She also worked as a secretary for units at two hospitals and Kessler Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi.
In November of 1992, she married Albert M. Bruno. They lived on the farm near Whitney before retiring and moving to Whitney proper. This marriage brought her two step-sons, Leonard Greenwade and wife, Jackie (Woodside) and Bud Greenwade and wife, Kay; three step-grandsons Skipper Greenwade and wife, Gabby, Kyle Greenwade, wife, Carol and great-grandson, Colin Buck Greenwade, John Greenwade and wife, Kris and great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy and three great-great-grandchildren.
A devout Christian and a member of King United Memorial Methodist Church, she devoted many hours of her life by coordinating the prayer group and list.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, James (Son) Anders, Mel Anders; sister, Joyce Lee Anders; and her daugther, Barta J. Krentz.
She is survived by sons, Jerry Wayne Moody, Sr. and wife, Mavis, Thomas Samuel Moody and wife, Maria, and daughter, Yolanda Lee Gregory and husband, Jay C; a favorite sister-in-law, Neede Anders of Hamilton; she was blessed with 26 great-grandchildren (two deceased) and 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to list.
