Douglas "Wayne" Bennett, beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 82. Born on July 22, 1942, Wayne lived a life marked by service to both his country and to his family.
Wayne grew up in Duck Hill, MS, with twelve siblings. He went on to join the US Army. He met his wife, Dana, while at Fort Rucker, Alabama where she was a secretary. He achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major and was a veteran of Vietnam. After retirement with the military at Fort Hood with 26 years of service, Wayne and Dana along with their young daughter Hayley returned to Dothan Alabama where they lived for nearly 40 years. He worked for The Southern Company after which he permanently retired and enjoyed woodworking and investing. He and Dana were active in the First Christian Church of Dothan Alabama and he enjoyed spending mornings with his buddies at Shoney's. In the past year Wayne and Dana moved from Alabama to Texas to be near family.
Beyond his career, Douglas was a devoted family man. Together, Wayne and Dana raised three children: Patricia Bennett Gall (husband Vincent Gall), Douglas Bennett Jr (wife Tammy Bennett), and Hayley Razloznik (husband Brian Razloznik), who brought joy and pride into his life. Wayne was also a proud grandfather to Bethany Reaves, Whitney Dyer, McKenna Gall, Michael Gall, Sara Tungsvik, and Reese Razloznik as well as 9 great grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his family members, as well as brothers Larry Bennett, Jerry Bennett, Mike Bennett and sister Sandra Shepherd. He will be remembered for his wisdom and his dedication to those he loved. He had a pretty rough exterior as any Sergeant Major should but was very soft hearted.
Wayne will be laid to rest with a graveside service at the Fort Graham Cemetery in Whitney, TX on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM where family and friends are invited to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel for Towers in his honor.
Douglas Wayne Bennett's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished.
