Frances “Nanny” Boortz, 88, of Whitney, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at a Waco hospital. A memorial service under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Whitney with Rev. Philip C. Wottrich officiating.
Frances was born on November 14, 1926, in Malone to Herman F. And Dora E. (Wilmore) Huse. On July 6, 1946, she married Melvin J. Boortz in Malone. For 15 years, she worked at Woods Manufacturing in Waco before moving to Whitney in 1970. She also worked several years in a Whitney café before starting Fran’s Day Care, which she ran for 20 years until her retirement in 2000.
She loved watching her grandkids in all their activities, working in her yard and especially playing 42. All children were very, very dear to her.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a son, Billy Boortz; and two brothers, Leonard Huse and D.J. Huse.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann Cochran of Whitney; three grandchildren, Stacy Choate and husband, Troy, and Chris Cochran and wife, Sonia, all of Whitney, and Rita Jones and husband, Adam, of Michigan; four great-grandchildren, Hali Choate Wyont and husband, Michael, of New Braunfels, Tyler Choate of Whitney, Cameron Cochran of San Marcos and Brayli Cochran of Whitney; and several nieces and nephews.
