Staff Sergeant Gilbert L. Kelly, 80, of Whitney, beloved husband, and best friend of Margaret Kelly for 55 years, passed peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2013, surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2013 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father Ouseph Thekkumthala officiating. Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial Park.
  
  
  Gilbert was born in Frederick, Oklahoma on November 14, 1932. In 1951, he enlisted in the United Sates Marine Corps and served two tours of duty during the Korean War, retiring in 1965. On February 28, 1958, he married Margaret Kelley in California. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro and was also a lifetime member of the American Legion 8571 and the VFW.
  
  
  Gilbert was predeceased by his mother, Louise Hendrix and his aunt, Lillie Ross, both of Whitney.
  
  
  He is survived by his wife; his three wonderful children, Gilbert L. Kelly and wife, Cheryl of China Spring, Patricia A. Thompson and husband, Rodney of Mabel, MN, and Lisa V. Harmeyer and husband, Ron of Tomball; and his brother, John D. Hendrix of California. He is also lovingly remembered by his 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
  
  
  The family extends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Heritage and Sunset Hospice (both in Tomball) for all of their support and attention.
  
  
  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Gilbert’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 1700 Lake Success Drive, Waco, TX 76710.
