Gracie Elizabeth Phillips was born in Hillsboro, Texas, on May 12, 2003, to John and Deborah Phillips. She is the oldest of nine children. A loving sister and daughter, Gracie always took care of her family. Her sisters were her best friends and she loved to go fishing or on a “dragon” hunt with her brothers. She was a careful listener and wonderful storyteller. She loved to play the piano, write poetry and walk in the woods. A fan of Lewis and Tolkien, books were next in line after her family and friends. Gracie began having health issues at thirteen years old and battled them for the next seven years. She faced trials that most teenagers do not experience, and struggled through the valley many times, but through it all she stayed the course and kept the faith. After years of looking to Christ, the Lord called her home on the morning of April 9, 2024. Gracie will be greatly missed by those she left behind, but all who share her hope look forward to the day when we cross through the waters and meet on that beautiful shore.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Guyle Burkett, Jr. of Hillsboro and her uncle James Phillips of Nickerson, Kansas.
Gracie is survived by her parents, John and Deborah; sisters, Aurora, Emilie and Ruthie; brothers, Jace, Hudson, Luke, Elliot, and John Davis of Hubbard; grandparents, Paul and Barbara Phillips of Hubbard; Ruth Burkett of Peoria; great-grandmother, Jimmie Phillips of Hubbard; aunts and uncles, David and Nicole Burkett of Peoria, Mike and Nicole Burkett of Whitney, Ruth Ann Burkett of Hillsboro, Paul and Tess Phillips of Hutchinson, Kansas, Kevin and Carla Hopkins of Zavalla, Texas and many cousins.
