Jack "Scat" Scattergood, age 83, passed away on August 16, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, Texas.
Jack's first job was a caddy in Springfield, Illinois at the age of 16. During his time in college he and his wife, Carole Megginson, started their family, and he soon became a journeyman tool and dye maker at Allis Chalmers.
They had 3 wonderful children together which brought him so much joy and pride. Following their separation and divorce, he began a new chapter of his life in Fort Worth, Texas. Jack worked on the eagle and Space Shuttle and loved to say that his fingertips " had touched space".
Jack met Ray Wylie Hubbard in the late 70's and their friendship led to his work in the music industry. He ultimately became apart of the road crew for Waylon Jennings.
He moved to Whitney in the late eighties and decided he would make this his home. Jack was part of the Lakeview VFD, and completed Firefighting I & II at Texas A & M.
During his time at American Ice in 1996, he met the love of his life and soulmate, Christina Gatlin, at Poverty Flats in Whitney, Texas. They got married in February of 2009. Their union made it possible for the time he got to spend as a family man, being able to reconnect with his children and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen Scattergood; brother, Gary Don Scattergood; and his in-laws, Monte and Mary Ann Gatlin.
Jack is survived by the love of his life, Christina of Whitney, Texas; his children, John "David" and his wife, Alice of Orlando, Florida, Gregory Don and his wife, Lisa of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and his daughter, Diana Lynn of Heathrow, Florida; 9 beautiful grandchildren, Claire, Diana, Lisa, Ellen, Jennifer, Jake, Joel, and Kyle; 8 great-grandbabies, Evlyn, Jordan, Roman, Aurora, Avery, Hayden, Bevy, and Levi; and his sister, Beverly Fisher and husband, Ray of Fairfield, Illinois.
