James Bailey

James Roy Bailey, 85, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at Town Hall Estates in Hillsboro, Texas. Graveside services will take place at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Itasca Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

James Roy was the first-born child of Arvis Bailey and Frances Turner Bailey on November 1, 1939, in Hill County Texas. He was raised along with two younger sisters, Donna and Jean, on the Bailey home place, five miles southeast of Itasca, Texas.

James Roy attended Itasca Public School for twelve years, graduating with honors in 1958. He attended Texas A&M his first year on college and completed his education at North Texas State University in Denton with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education/Math and Government in 1962. He pursued a Masters Degree in Mathematics during summers at Hope College, The University of Houston and North Texas State University. He began teaching math at Dallas ISD, Thomas Jefferson High School in the fall of 1962 and remained an educator there until his retirement in 1994.

James Roy married Joan Elizabeth Traughber at the First United Methodist Church in Itasca, Texas in 1966. Together they had two children, James Chirstopher and Jayme Elizabeth. They acquired a ceramic shop in Dallas in 1982 which was operated primarily by Joan.

James Roy was preceded in death by his Parents, Arvis and Frances Bailey; his father and mother-in-law, M.S. and Ruth Traughber; and Joan Pierce, the mother of his children.

James Roy is survived by his son, James Christopher, of Plano; his daughter, Jayme B. Stauffer of Buda; his grandchildren, Tate Stauffer Patterson (Mitchell), and Fletcher Stauffer; his sisters, Donna Crawford of Hillsboro, and Jean Bailey of Fort Worth; numerous cousins; and a special friend for many years, Mary Lou Guy.
