James Landers

James H, "Jim" Landers, 83, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on June 29, 2025, surrounded by loved ones

Jim was born in 1942 in Lobutcha, Mississippi, and began his adult life in the U.S. Air Force. After his service, he earned a degree in computer science from Mississippi State University and worked as a computer programmer for the first part of his career. In a courageous midlife shift, Jim pursued his passion for helping others and went on to earn a Master's degree in Family Counseling from the University of North Texas. He spent the remainder of his professional life working a Family Service in Fort Worth and in private practice as a family counselor.

Jim also devoted time to volunteer work, especially with hospice organizations in both Fort Worth and Whitney. He found joy in nature, becoming a Master Naturalist alongside his wife, Carolyn, and took great pride in his landscaping work. An avid sailor and camper, Jim found peace and inspiration in the outdoors.

A man of deep thought and quiet wit, Jim was most at home in meaningful conversations about the nature of reality. He also had a love for poetry and served as president on the Fort Worth Poetry Society during its 100th anniversary celebration.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Landers; daughter, Laura Landers Fortado and son-in-law, Scott Fortado; grandchildren, Michael James Fortado and his wife, Danielle, Elizabeth Carolyn Fortado and her fiancé, Eric Keena, and Matthew Scott Fortado and his fiancée, Lauren Reyes. He is also survived by his sister, Gail King, and nephews, Clark King, Robert King, Patrick Landers, and Carl Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lessie May Landers; father, C.B. Landers, and brothers, Tom, George and Bobby Landers.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive S., Fort Worth, Texas 76109.
