Janice Summerhill

Janice Ann Summerhill was born on October 30, 1947, in Cleburne, Texas, the firstborn child of Marcille and John Booth. At a young age, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she spent most of her childhood. She graduated from Paschal High School in 1966 and moved to New York City to begin a career as an American Airlines flight attendant.

On October 5, 1973, Janice married Mike Summerhill of Fort Worth, and together they made their home in Hillsboro, where they shared 53 happy and loving years. A devoted wife and mother, Janice poured herself into her family and raised four children with warmth and dedication. She earned an associate's degree from Hill College and worked in the Hillsboro school system until 2001. Throughout those years, she was a faithful presence in her community, serving on the PTA and as a Junior Sesame sponsor. Janice joined First Baptist Church of Hillsboro in the early 1990s and remained an active and beloved member, participating in multiple committees and her Sunday School class. In 2001, she launched her own business, and in the years that followed, she devoted herself fully to the joy of caring for her grandchildren.

Janice had a remarkable creative spirit. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress who spent a lifetime making beautiful things for the people she loved - clothing, draperies, quilts, and upholstered furniture. She even reupholstered a car! Whether she was sewing, mending, or crafting, her hands were always busy doing something for someone else.

Above all else, Janice's life was anchored in her faith and her family. She leaned on God through every season of life, including her times of illness, and her quiet strength was an inspiration to all who knew her. She would drop anything she was doing to talk to one of her kids on the phone, and she found her greatest joy in watching her children and grandchildren grow.

Janice is survived by her beloved husband, Mike Summerhill; her former husband, Carl Hickey of Benbrook; her son Brad Hickey of Boyd, Texas; her daughter Jennifer Cobb and son-in-law Chris of Austin, Texas; her son Aaron Summerhill of Grandview, Texas; and her daughter Megan Forbes and son-in-law Jeremy of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by ten cherished grandchildren - Cheyenne Hickey, Natosha Andow, Austin Cobb, Preston Cobb, Emma Warren, Noah Warren, Ella Summerhill, Abbott Summerhill, Madeline Forbes, and Olivia Forbes - and two beloved great-grandchildren, Gage and Cole Andow - and one brother, John Booth and sister-in-law, Nancy Booth.
