Joan (Simmons) Marquart, age 93, of Bedford, Texas, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, in Plano, Texas. Graveside services will take place at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Richland Cemetery in Mertens, Texas. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro.
She was born April 5, 1932, in Italy, Texas, to Arthur and Tera (Perry) Simmons. Joan grew up in the Frost and Mertens area. She enjoyed cheerleading and basketball during high school. After high school, she attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas, where she received her Bachelors Degree. She then received her Master's Degree in Education at Sul Ross in Alpine, Texas.
Joan was the wife of a Southern Baptist preacher for thirty-two years, serving in various locations in Texas, with fifteen plus years at First Baptist Church, Del Rio, Texas. After a divorce, she was married to Pete Monzingo until his passing. Later, she married Charles Marquart. They lived in San Angelo, Texas and enjoyed traveling with their RV club plus exploring many wonderful places around the world. She was a wonderful first grade teacher for over twenty-five years. After Charles' passing, Joan moved to Bedford, Texas, where she spent her final years near her children and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Simmons and Tera Perry; her siblings, Mildred Gunter, Floyd Simmons, Frances Vuckovich, Lee Roy Simmons, and Dorothy Ballew; her husbands, Pete Monzingo and Charles Marquart. Joan is survived by her sons, Brad and wife, Kim Walts, and Ronnie and his wife, Teresa Walts; grandchildren, Kayleigh Garcia, Tanner Walts, Oakley Walts, Raegan Walts, Chase Walts, and Logan Kennedy; and her great-grandchildren, Noah Jones, Cambren, Cylan and Cadynne Garcia.
