After discharge from the Navy, Joe worked in the Fort Worth area until going to Alaska where he became Field Superintendent for H.C. Price Oil Company retiring after 22 years. In the last 28 years he enjoyed trail riding, parades and any event that raised money for children or wounded warriors. He rode his mule, Bugs, in most of the events and later years his wagon hitched up to Toby and Rachel. Among a few of his events were Goldthwaite to benefit the Children's Home, Texas Star, Cowboys for Kids, Red Steagall riding from Jacksboro to Fort Worth Stockyards for five days, The Stock Show Parade every year, Santa Fe Trail riding from Abilene to San Angelo for seven days, he enjoyed riding the Stillwell Ranch and Big Bend, Pole Canyon, Palo Duro, Bandera, going from Fredericksburg to Johnson Ranch then into Luckenbach, Chama New Mexico and the mountains were an all-time favorite and he rode other times locally on ranches with friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Paul Crumpacker, stepmother Katie Crumpacker, brother Jimmie Crumpacker and Sister Billie Kay Crumpacker Martin, his mother Fae Sharp Parvin and stepfather Jimmie Parvin.
He is survived by his wife Judy Crumpacker; children, Mike Brown and wife, Mary, Robert Brown and wife, Debbie, Karen Kessler and husband, Jack and Tammy Baxter; six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nephew, Brian Martin and wife, Christy, Shana Edwards and husband, Bubba; Tanya Tippen and husband, Justin, and Paula Martin, all of Arkansas. He has many loving cousins and great nieces and nephews. He has many who call him Poppy that he loved like his own.
There are so many stories that have been shared about Joe. All of them filled with laughter, joy and respect. One thing that Judy shared is that he could always put a smile on her face and that smile and those pretty blue eyes will certainly be missed.
