Joseph Michael Elkin, 79, of Whitney, Texas passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 13, 2025. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. James Hoskins officiating.
Born September 10, 1946, in Danville, Illinois, he was the son of John and Helen (Laird) Elkin. Joe grew up on the family farm in Bismark, graduated from Bismark-Henning High School in 1964, and attended Danville Area Community College. A dedicated patriot, Joe honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1964 to 1970. During this time, he began working for Robintech in the copper industry. In 1968 he was transferred to Hillsboro, Texas to open Robintech’s new plant, and later became Vice President of Sales. Joe continued his sales career with Spartan Copper, Nibco, and finally moved to independent sales while founding JM Elkin Incorporated and TRX Industries. He had a successful career as a business owner and corporate executive.
Joe found joy in simple moments and lived a life rooted in love, faith, and generosity. He was devoted to his family and cherished the time spent with them. Joe loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a longtime member of the Lake Whitney AA group and recently celebrated forty-three years of continuous sobriety. Joe will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, and the joy he brought to everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and the example of a life well lived. Joe's warmth and compassion will remain forever in our hearts.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Susan Earle.
Joe is lovingly survived by his daughter, Jody Mackey and son-in-law, Jim, of Hillsboro; his granddaughter, Maddie Mackey and fiancé, Luke Cagle; step-children, Aaron King and wife, Dahlia, of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Sarah Marchitto and husband, Steve, of Pompano Beach, Florida; and step-granddaughter, Tori King; two brothers, Alan Elkin and wife, Janie, of Whitney, Texas, and Steve Elkin and wife, Betty, of Bismark, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 25th, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or a charity of your choice.
