Joyce Elizabeth Brown, age 99, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Hillsboro, Texas. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Younger Cemetery in Silver City, Texas.
She was born September 1, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, to George Andrew and Lenora Elizabeth (Slaughter) York. Joyce grew up in Purdon, Texas and attended high school in Frost, Texas, graduating in 1944. She married Alphonso Pierce Chapman on July 17, 1944, and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1944. Joyce married Lealon Fate Brown on August 5, 1950, and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1997.
For most of her life, she worked in retail, working Perry's Variety Store, Shell's Dress Shop, J.B. Whites, all in Hillsboro, and at SAS and Mikasa at the Outlet Mall. Joyce volunteered with Senior Circle at Hill Regional Hospital and was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary. She was an active member of First Baptist Church for many years where she was a member of The Bible Searchers Sunday school class and the Adult Choir. Joyce was also a member of the Hillsboro Chapter Order of Eastern Star #769 and Woodmen of the World.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husbands, Alphonso Chapman and Lealon Brown; her parents, George Andrew and Lenora Elizabeth York; her brother, Carl Andrew York; her son, Billy Carl Brown; her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Tidwell; two grandsons, Billy Don Ivy and Bryan Christopher Brown; her granddaughter, Shirley Ann Collins; and her great-granddaughter, Callie Ivy.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Marie Banik and her husband, Johnny, of Axtell, Texas; four grandchildren, Benny Ivy and his wife, Chrystal, Billy Carl Brown, Jr. and his wife, Laurie, Jenny Hogan and her husband, William, and Johnny Banik, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Collins, Ashley Collins and her husband, Ethan Noble, Brandon Brown, Daylan Hogan, Kristin Hogan and Jacob Hogan; and five great-great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Collins, Peyton Noble, Briley Noble, Sierra Banik and Brexlie Lynn Rooney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Christian School, P.O. Box 271, Hillsboro, Texas 76645.
