Juanita Frances Margaret Schmidt was born on Saturday, November 28, 1931, at home near Malone, Texas, one of six children born to Henry Friedrich Schmidt and Annie Louise Conrad Schmidt. She was baptized into the Christian faith on Christmas Day, December 25, 1931, at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone by Pastor H.C. Gaertner. She was confirmed in her faith on April 5, 1944, also at Salem, Malone, by Pastor George Heinemeier. Her confirmation verse is: "One thing is needful. Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Luke 10:42
She was raised on the family cotton, grain and cattle farm north of Malone. She was educated in the White's School near Malone, Salem Lutheran School near Malone, and Bynum High School, graduating in 1948.
Juanita was introduced to Hamilton, Texas native Cleo James Schneider, who was living near Hillsboro, Texas. The two quickly fell in love and were married Saturday, Aug. 6, 1949, at Christ Lutheran in Hillsboro, the first couple to be married in the newly-refurbished military chapel that became the congregation's permanent house of worship. To this union, four children were born, Curtis, Donald, Phyllis, and Susan.
Juanita was a homemaker, raising the kids and helping out on the family farm. She put up large quantities of vegetables from the big gardens and was an excellent cook. Juanita and Cleo seldom took a vacation outside of visiting family, but later in life traveled with other farmers to Spain, St. Thomas & The Virgin Islands, and twice to Hawaii.
She was very active in her congregation, Christ Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, Walther League Counselor with Cleo, and LWML Esther Guild member and officer. She also cleaned the church for several years.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cleo, June 15, 2009; brothers Odell Schmidt, Bill Schmidt, Henry Schmidt, Jr.; sister Annie Mae Schmidt Stone; an infant sister, and by her daughter-in-law, Debbie Schneider.
She is survived her children, Rev. Curtis and Kathie Schneider of Brownwood, Texas, Don Schneider, Phyllis Cunningham, and Susan Perry and husband, Bill, all of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren: Jeremy Schneider and wife, Cheryl, Jessica Shelton and husband, Matt, Jeffrey Schneider, Meredith Beyer and husband Dr. Andrew Beyer, Lyndsey Pederson and husband, Mark, Julie Schneider, Jonathan Cunningham and wife René, Jameson Perry and fiancée Kat McDaniel, Kaitlin Glenn and husband Jeremy, and Bryan Schneider and wife Lauren; Robert Campbell and wife Arah; and Krystal Dollery and husband Shawn; 18 great-grandchildren: Brenna Shelton, Reed Schneider, Claire Schneider, Paisley Puryear, Kate Pederson, Owen Beyer, Barrett Shelton, Caroline Beyer, Hagen Pederson, Wemberly Beyer, Mylo Schneider, Marlee Schneider, Jett Glenn, Marvin Cunningham, Conrad Schneider, Laura Cunningham, Huntley Campbell, Stormi Dollery, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
