Lela Watson

Lela Faye Watson, 86, of Grandview departed this life on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Grandview with Rev. Corey Cornutt officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born October 2, 1928 in Whitney, she was the daughter of Mack and Lorena Peacock. She attended Hillsboro High School. While working at the Brown Drug Store, she met the love of her life and shortly afterward married Noel Eldon Watson of Hillsboro on November 12, 1948. They began their married life in Milford where they ran the Tri-State Phone Company. Faye was the operator, billing clerk, and office manager. Eldon did installations and strung telephone line. In 1951, during the Korean War, Eldon was drafted into the Air Force and Faye followed him from base to base all over the country, except during the year he was stationed in Japan.

After receiving his discharge in 1955, they moved to Fort Worth where they bought a house on Hammond and joined Gambrell Street Baptist Church. It was here that their daughter, Deborah, was born in 1959. Faye was active in the PTA, church, and was involved in taking care of her family. She was also an officer of the Eastern Star Chapter #681. Her life was blessed with the birth of her granddaughter, Miranda, in 1980. When Eldon retired in 1985, they traveled in their motor home, camping and visiting almost every state capital and Canada.

In 1993, they fulfilled a life long dream of buying land in Grandview. They called it Shady Meadow Ranch and turned the brier and weed choked land into a park like garden. She loved walking the land, watching the birds, and admiring the flowers that flourished in the new habitat. Faye loved driving the tractor, mowing, fishing, and gardening.

Faye is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Noel E. Watson of Grandview; daughter, Deborah Faye Watson; granddaughter, Miranda Sessums; and grandson-in-law, Christopher.
