Lonnie Burk, 87, of Hillsboro, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney where he has been a resident since 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Mr. Bruce Martin officiating. Burial will follow at New Woodbury Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
  
  
  Lonnie was born on December 19, 1929, in Arnottville, Texas to Berning and Rhoda (McCullough) Burk. He lived in Woodbury 82 of his 87 years. On December 16, 1949, he married Laura Johns and she remained his wife and best friend for 67 years. For 46 years, he worked for Exporters and Traders Cotton Compress and Warehouse and raised cattle all of his life. He played in the Woodbury Western Band and also The Rebels and sang with the Gospel Harmoneers. Lonnie was a member of Whitney Church of Christ.
  
  
  Preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Florence Johns, whom he loved dearly; a son, Gary Berning Burk on November 14, 2001; and a daughter, Norma Ruth Burk on August 12, 2016.
  
  
  Survivors include his wife, Laura Burk of Hillsboro; a son, William Darrell Burk and wife, Tammy of Woodbury, a daughter, Laurie Ann McPherson and husband, Jeff of Nemo, Texas near Glen Rose; a granddaughter who grew up in the family as a daughter, Tonya West Hodge; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren.
