Margie Lee Baker, 69, peacefully departed this life on April 15, 2026, and was welcomed into eternal rest by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born on October 25, 1956, in Hillsboro, Texas, Margie was the fourth of 11 children blessed to Maurine (Gipson) Baker and Vernon Baker Jr. From an early age, she was surrounded by the love, laughter, and strength of a family that would remain at the center of her life.
Margie graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1975 and continued her education at Hill College in Hillsboro and Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. At the age of 50, Margie made the bold decision to complete her studies and earn a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2006.
Margie devoted more than 30 years to her career in education. She began as a paraprofessional at Travis Elementary School and Hillsboro Elementary School, where she had the joy of working alongside her beloved sister, Carolyn. Margie later served as an elementary school teacher in Cedar Hill and Marlin, Texas, leaving a lasting impression on many students with her dedication and steady presence. After retiring, she returned to Hillsboro to be closer to family and the community where she grew up.
Beyond her career, Margie loved spending time with her sisters, shopping for home décor, and preparing meals that brought everyone together. In the kitchen, she often cooked with her mother to make holiday dishes, and she also perfected her own signature items such as homemade chili, potato salad, and chicken salad.
Margie also had a special gift for preserving memories and was often the one behind the camera at family gatherings capturing photos at birthdays, graduations, and weddings. She started scrapbooking to turn those moments into treasured keepsakes, creating lasting reminders of love, celebration, and family history.
As a member of Wade Chapel AME Church in Hillsboro, Margie carried her faith with her throughout her life. It was a source of strength, guidance, and peace that was instilled by her mother.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Maurine and Vernon Baker Jr.; her brother, Vernon Baker III; and three sisters, Carolyn Baker-Vaughn, Versie Jean Baker-Johnson, and Brenda Jo Wilson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love to be cherished by her siblings: Steve Baker, Larry Baker, Tony Baker and his wife Christine, Norman Baker, Norma Baker, and Cynthia Baker; along with a host of beloved friends, cousins, and nieces including Latrecia Watson and nephews including Chase Baker.
Margie will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unmistakable sharp wit. Those who knew her best will remember a woman with a beautiful soul, a quiet generosity, and a love for her family that knew no bounds. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
