Martha Chambers

Martha Mae Chambers, 77, of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, in Whitney, Texas. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 19, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, with Daniel Tanguma officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Garden of Memory. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

She was born July 25, 1948, the second of twin girls, to John and Margarette (Hackett) Sveen, in Bottineau, North Dakota. Martha married Leon Hopson on December 4, 1981, in his parents' home in Hillsboro. Leon passed away on May 3, 2000. On September 7, 2002, Martha married Clayton McElfresh, whom she divorced in October 2007. She married Carl Heinz Chambers on June 10, 2008, and they remained married until his death in August 2008.

Martha worked at hospitals and nursing homes, including Town Hall Estates, Hillsboro before becoming a resident there. She enjoyed card games, bingo, dominoes and various crafts. Martha was always taking people into her home and heart as family. She was a lifelong dog lover and enjoyed spending time with her favorite dog, Buddy. While living in Whitney Nursing and Rehab, Martha won a pageant on her birthday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margarette Sveen; her sister, Mary Margaret Sveen; her brother, Roger Wayne Sveen; and Nathan Leon and Karl Chambers. Survivors include her step-daughter, Karen; her cousin, Margarette; and special friends, John and Ruth Reed and Chris Gafford.
