Mary Sue Kendall (Burt), 97, of Covington, Texas peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 16, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Covington with Dr. Marc Burnett and Dr. Frank Morrow officiating. Burial will follow at Covington Cemetery. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Covington at 10:00 AM, prior to the service.
Sue was born in Osceola, Texas to Wyatt Armstead and Jeffie Aline Burt. While working in the First National Bank of Grandview, she met her loving husband of 64 years, Joe Frank Kendall. Due to Joe's career in the Air Force, they were able to travel around the world and live all across the United States. However, upon Joe's retirement, they returned and lived in Covington, Texas on their farm just a mile away from where she was born. Sue was a faithful and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Covington serving as the treasurer and leading a women's Sunday school class for many years. She was an active member of the community, giving back through her time and talent, not letting her gifts go to waste. Sue's Christian faith was her highest priority and she firmly professed her deep belief.
Sue had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed doing the morning crossword puzzles and solving jigsaw puzzles. She was talented at sewing, cross-stitch, quilting, and crochet. Many crocheted baby blankets were donated thanks to Sue's talented hands. Sue was an amazing cook and baker. Her home always had a fresh baked pie, cobbler, or cookies. Sue also enjoyed playing 42 with her family and friends. Sue loved watching all of Texas A&M sports and would laugh at her family's various ways of trying to impact the game while watching from home. She was a prolific reader who enjoyed reading everything from the Bible to a good mystery.
Sue's family was a huge priority for her. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandma. Her wit and humor were with her even at 97 years of age. She made everyone feel welcomed and led her life with a servant's heart like her Savior.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and brothers, Roland and Frank Burt. She is survived by her sons, Joe Mark and wife Jacque of Shreveport and Michael and wife Kwunjit of Southlake; her daughter Diann Kendall of Fort Worth; her four grandchildren- Kyle Kendall, Whitney Garmhausen and husband Geoff, Katria Kimble and husband Brandon, and Mica Kendall; her three great-grandchildren, Jack and Kendall Caroline Garmhausen and Wyatt Kimble; and her brother, Jeff Burt.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 145, Covington, TX 76636.
