Mary Powers

Daughter of Cecil John and Willie Margaret Cowan Schmidt. She lived in Whitney all of her life graduating from Whitney High School in 1942. On November 30, 1942 she married Jake N. Powers in Waco, Texas. She worked for Community Public Service and TP&L for several years. She owned and operated Powers Gift Shop in Hillsboro from 1965 until 1999. Mrs. Powers was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitney. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 14, 2002, her parents, 1 brother - Cecil John Schmidt and 1 sister - Chlodelle Poston. Survivors:son, Jake K. Powers and wife, Angela of Whitney, 2 granddaughters - Mary Beth Powers and Allison Powers
