Max Kyle Omberg, 90, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, February 27, in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be Friday, March 6, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, 2495 Corsicana Highway in Hillsboro. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Rosehill Cemetery, 960 E. 2nd Street in Cleburne, Texas.
He was born July 13, 1935, in Emmett, TX, the son of Archie Adolf (AA) and Ruthie Eunice Ballew Omberg. After graduating from Frost High School, Max went to a trade school in Dallas, studying electronics, then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955. Max married Shirley Joanne Jones later that same year. They had three children, Terry Ann, Kathy Sue, and Max Kyle, Jr.
Max retired from the military in 1976, moving home to Mertens. He received his Bachelor's degree from Tarleton University, then started a career at Lockheed Martin, training foreign and U.S. Personnel. After 38 years of marriage, Max lost Joanne to cancer.
Max married Edith Clinkscales in 1995 and moved to Hillsboro, where they spent the next 30 years together.
Max was a devoted husband, loving and supportive father, and adoring grandfather. He was a caring man, never met a stranger, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need, living out his faith on a daily basis. Max always had a story for any situation, and would always find the silver lining in any circumstance, even at the end. Max loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting with his son Kyle.
Max was a faithful member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Mertens.
He recently celebrated his 59th year as a member of the Masonic Lodge, having been raised as a Master mason February 13 1967. He was a member of Hillsboro Lodge #196, Hubbard City Lodge and New Hope Lodge in Covington. He was a proud member of the American Legion, where he served as post commander and in other leadership rolls of the local chapter in the past.
In addition to his first wife, Max was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jackson Omberg and Warren Omberg, sister Joyce Hollingsworth, and daughters Terry Ann Omberg Guerrero and April Clinkscales.
Survivors include his wife, Edith, brother Roger Omberg, daughter Kathy Boshears, sons Max Kyle Jr. and wife, Jaye, Jason Clinkscales and wife, Karen and Jonathan Clinkscales, grandchildren Joseph Omberg and wife Elle, Alexis Omberg, and Layne Clinkscales, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Mertens, 100 N. Stroud St, Mertens, Texas 76666.
