Morris Truman Peterson, age 80, of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory, Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 29, 2025, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro.
Morris was born April 21, 1945, in Lubbock, Texas, to William Buford Peterson and Etta Margarette (Margie) Shelton Peterson. Morris graduated from Morton High School in 1963. Morris majored in Voice at Wayland Baptist University (1963-1964, 1965) and South Plains College (1964-1965) Morris was united in marriage to Marilyn McDaniel on January 22, 1966, in Enochs, Texas whom he met while leading the music at the summer 1965 Enochs Baptist Church revival.
Morris served as Minister of Music, interim Minister of Music, and guest Minister of Music at several Baptist churches over the years. Morris was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Hillsboro, where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, taught Adult III Sunday School class, and filled in occasionally as interim music director. Morris sang dozens of special solos, special duets, choir music productions, and funerals well into the early 2010s.
Morris and Marilyn moved from Lubbock to Hillsboro in December 1972, where Morris accepted the manager role at the new Hillsboro Gebo's store which he managed until his retirement in 2011.
Morris enjoyed woodworking, crafts, gardening, and doting on his grandchildren in his spare time.
Morris is preceded in death by his parents, William and Etta; his daughter, Stephanie Ann Peterson; his sister, Kay Abney; his brothers-in-law, David McDaniel, Gordon McDaniel and Dwight McDaniel.
Morris is survived by his wife, Marilyn McDaniel Peterson; his sons, Scott Peterson and Steven Peterson and his wife, Meredith; three grandchildren, Dewey Brannan, III, Alyseia Peterson and Jadyn Peterson; his brothers-in-law, Craig McDaniel and Harold Abney; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
