Dr. Morris Wilkins of Whitney passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, after a sudden illness and a stay at Providence Hospital.
Morris was born July 25, 1943, in Ray, Arizona, and lived there until his freshman year of high school. He attended Kopperl High School, where he met Cynthia Jean Calahan Wilkins. They were married June 8, 1963.
Morris attended Hill College and Tarleton State University. He went on to attend and graduate from Texas A & M with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He moved his family to Whitney in 1971 and opened his veterinary clinic at 102 S. Bosque. He practiced until 2019, when he sold the clinic to Dr. Kim Carter.
Morris is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cindy Wilkins, a son, Robert Wayne "Bob" Wilkins, and daughter Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Wilkins, numerous nieces, nephews, many cousins and second cousins, and great friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Lucy Wilkins, sister Delia Nell Connors, nieces Lucy Ann Smith and Missy Stevens, and son William Calvin "Bill" Wilkins.
In addition to being a veterinarian, he enjoyed farming and ranching. His favorite hobbies were time spent hunting and fishing with family. He served on the Whitney School Board, Hospital Board, and City Park Board. He was also a longtime member of the Whitney Lions Club.
Visitation will be held at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Home in Whitney on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Open Range Cowboy Church. Interment will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in Whitney.
