Penny Jean Keim

Penny Jean Keim, born on December 1, 1955, in Canton, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2025. Surrounded by the love of her family, including her cherished dog, Cinnamon, Penny fulfilled her desire to leave this world in the comfort of her own bed.

Penny was the beloved daughter of Art Pellhum and Shirley Welch, both of whom have predeceased her. She is also mourned by her stepfathers, Marvin Cole and Jimmy Welch, who have left their own legacies. Penny is survived by her son, Buck Grant, and her daughter, Holly Hixon. She was a proud grandmother to Emily and Erika Grant and a great-grandmother to Everly and Kathy, who brought immense joy to her life.

Penny belonged to a large and loving family that included her siblings: Jim Shaw (Cathy), Rick Shaw (Sharon), Dennis Cole (Judy), Karen Morton (Steve), James Welch (Misti), Tammy Stapp (Troy), and Connie Critchfield; and brother n law, Kevin Mattingly. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Mattingly, as well as her brother, Steven Cole. Penny's spirit will continue to live on through her surviving siblings and her numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, all of whom loved and cherished her deeply.

For most of her life, Penny called Abilene, Kansas, home, where she attended Abilene High School. Her journey took her to Hobbs, New Mexico, before settling in Hillsboro, Texas. It was in Hillsboro that Penny found tranquility on her porch, embracing the beauty of nature and wildlife that surrounded her.

An artistic soul, she enjoyed crocheting and crafting, finding joy in creating beautiful pieces. Penny also had a spirited side, relishing the thrill of riding on the back of a Harley, which showcased her adventurous spirit.

Penny Jean Keim will be remembered for her loving nature, her devotion to family, and her zest for life. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, as they carry forward her legacy of love and creativity.
