Richard Schmid

Richard Armin Schmid, age 87, of Whitney Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Richard was born in Pecos Texas on May 10, 1938. Richard "Dick" Schmid lived a life defined by service, honor, and devotion to both country and community, and family.

In 1959 Richard married Maryellen Loscerbo in Beaugency, France. Richard proudly served in the United States Army as an Army Specialist E4 from 1959 to 1961 where he demonstrated courage, leadership, and unwavering loyalty to his fellow servicemen and women. Richard and Maryellen had three daughters together Vicki, Debbie, and Linda in Dallas Texas.

After completing his overseas military service, Richard worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. St Louis, Missouri. He then continued his life’s calling in 1971 to protect and serve by joining the Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse in Texas. Richard married his wife Mary Schmid on August 25, 1972, and they had their son Stephen together in 1980. They lived together in Whitney for many years. Over the course of several years, he served multiple offices in Dallas County where he finally retired as Director of Data Services Dallas County in 1993 earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and the gratitude of those he served.

Later in life Richard, his wife Mary and son Stephen moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico. They relocated for a life a leisure and mountain air where he then went into private security at the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. After living in New Mexico for 20+ years they finally moved back to Whitney Texas to be close to children and grandchildren. Both him and Mary happily lived the remainder of their years together at the lake closely surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones.

While his uniform reflected his commitment to justice, those who knew "Dick" best will remember his kindness, steady presence, and devotion to his family and loved ones. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, whose warmth, humor, and storytelling could fill a room. Whether it was sharing stories of his years in service while in Switzerland, stories of the massive swordfish he caught while offshore fishing on the coast, vacationing in Alaska with family, loving on his puppies Stump, Bump, and Izzy, or watching his children and grandchildren live by the words he taught us all. Dick lived with a heart full of generosity and love.

He leaves behind his three daughters Vicki Barnett and husband Jim of Weatherford, Debbie Jones and husband Terry of Whitney, Linda Vail and husband Scott of Corsicana, and his only son Stephen Schmid and wife Jamie of Whitney.

Grandchildren: Casey Jones and wife Brittnay, Shelby Booth, step grandson James Barnett and wife Kelly, Madison Hernandez and husband Jared, Zach Wagnon and wife Kim, Tyler Wagnon and wife Katie, Cambria Sanford and Jolene Schmid.

Great Grandchildren: Karsyn, Tateum, Joshlynn, Eli, Bradyn, Kaley, Caroline, Julian, Myles, Lillian, Cooper, and another one on the way. As well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues who will carry his memory forward.

Richard "Dick" Schmid was preceded in death by his mother Elise and father Arthur, his sister Bobby Townsend, his beloved wife Mary Schmid, and grandson Josh Jones, and his best friend John Schnick.

His watch here on earth has ended, but the legacy of his service and the love he shared will remain forever. May he rest in peace, knowing he served his country, his community, and his family with honor.

Dick, Schnick & Mimi. They are up there having the grandest of times reuniting with each other. The stories being shared in heaven right now by those three are words that should be noted in the history books.

Save some stories for us. Shine bright on us all until we see you again. I love you. We can take it from here. Love, Boo
