Robert Thompson

Robert Chester Thompson, 80, of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Visitation will be held from 11:30 to 1:30, Friday, September 5, 2025, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Graveside services will take place at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 5, 2025, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory Cemetery, with Rev. Clay Strawn officiating.

Robert was born June 11, 1944, to Curtis and Margaret (Fenner) Thompson, in Dallas.

He retired from the United States Post Office in 1995. Robert was an avid gardener of irises and his famous pecan trees, which he could never get to produce any pecans. He was passionate about playing 42 Dominos, rating very high in the Texas leagues and winning numerous tournaments.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his only sister, Carol Fields.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Sessums Thompson; daughters, Shannon Adams of Ore City, Sherry Gardi and husband, Kamran, of Austin; son, Retired Air Force Colonel Shawn Thompson and wife, Mali of San Antonio; stepchildren, Darren Thomas and David Thomas; grandchildren, Tiana Sellers, Kaewan Gardi and wife, Fiorella Guerra, Dyako Gardi and wife, Jess Musial, Kyle Thompson and Mary Thompson; and step-grandchildren, David Thomas, Jr. and Rhiannon Thomas.
