Rowland White

Rowland Edwin (Ed) White went home to glory on the morning of June 18, 2025, at the age of 93, in Granbury, Texas. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Marshall & Marshall.

He was born on January 26, 1932, during the Great Depression, to parents Blake White and Tora Mae (Riley) White of Hillsboro. The second of four siblings, Ed began working on behalf of his family from the age of eleven, delivering groceries. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a military policeman during the Korean War, stationed in Japan toward the end of his service. During his active service, he married Reta Clinkscales of Hillsboro on June 8, 1951, with whom he would spend the next sixty-three years and have two loving children.

Ed attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock majoring in business and finance. He ultimately worked in municipal government as an accountant for several years in various cities of the DFW metroplex. His city work culminated after three years as the first City Manager of Duncanville when he decided to make a career change. At that time, he made a bold move to begin his own business as a Real Estate Broker in Duncanville. He remained in this business for many years before transitioning to his final work as a real estate appraiser until his retirement in 2005.

Ed was a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge for more than fifty years. His current affiliation was with the lodge in Hillsboro. Known as "Poppa" to his children and grandchildren, Ed was fond of the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He made a record kill of a white tail buck in Hill County in December 1998, which he had mounted and kept until his death.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Blake and Tora Mae White, his sister, Edith Hale and his loving wife, Reta. He is survived by his younger brothers, Dale White (Johnnie Ann) and Bill White (Sandy); his children, Gail Mitchell (Doug) and Greg White (Cheryl); his five grandchildren, Ashlee Davis, Brichelle Smith, Shelby Gist-White, Mandy Melton, and Casey Mitchell, as well as seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The scripture below that Poppa prayed over his children days before he left for heaven is also his departing wish to all that he loved as he said to us "be joyful!"

"The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His face upon you and give you peace."

Numbers 6:24-26
