Stephen James, born October 7, 1957, passed away on May 1, 2026, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, passion, and unwavering support for those around him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who brought energy and joy into every room- especially when there was a game on.
Steve dedicated his career as a civil engineer, taking great pride in his work and the lasting impact he made through it. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in everything he did.
Steve had a deep love for sports and was a proud fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Kansas City Chiefs. Whether cheering from the stands or from his living room, he never missed an opportunity to support his teams and share that excitement with others.
More than anything, Steve loved supporting his grandchildren. He made it a priority to be present at their games, performances, and activities whenever he could. His presence in the stands meant the world to them and will be a lasting memory they carry forward.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tena James; his sister, Terri James; his children, Clynt James, Christen James Rogers, and Courtney James Mears; his son-in-law, Andrew Rogers; and his cherished grandchildren, Brayden Mears, Dawson Mears, Autumn Rogers, PJ Rogers, Easton Mears, Athena James, Chad and Shayna Kobuck. Each of them carries forward his spirit, strength, and love of family.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held on May 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Grandview. In honor of his love for sports, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite team apparel-jerseys or team colors- to the funeral as we come together to celebrate a life well lived.
Steve will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his passion, his loyalty, and the way he brought people together-both in life and through the games he loved.
