Suedell (Jackson) Bruce, age 94, of Abbott, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, in Waco. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Marshall and Marshall. Burial will follow the funeral service at Hillcrest Garden of Memory Cemetery, Hillsboro.
She was born on October 5, 1931, in Hillsboro, Texas to Doris and Tom Jackson. Sue was a 1948 graduate of Hillsboro High School. On July 15, 1950, she married Jimmy Bruce of Abbott.
Sue began her career by attending nursing school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was a Licensed X-Ray technician where she became head of the X-ray department at Grant-Buie hospital in Hillsboro.
After her retirement she started a whole new chapter of her life travelling. She and Jimmy were always on the go to concerts, festivals, and scenic parks. Through this travel, her circle of friends increased two-fold, and many were frequent visitors to the house in Abbott.
Around this time, she developed a passion for oil painting. She was a very accomplished artist and many of her paintings were sold. The other loves of her life were her cats. Sue always had a cat or two in her life. Sue was a member of Abbott Baptist Church.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Doris Jackson; her husband of seventy-one years, Jimmy; her sister, Kathleen Blount; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Bruce; and her son-in-law, Tom Zatopek.
She is survived by her two children; Cynthia Zatopek of Azle, Texas, and Jim Bruce Jr. of Houston; her brother Mickey Jackson and his wife Barbara of Frisco, Texas; a niece, Becky Blount; and nephews, Jeff and Jay Jackson.
