Velma Smith

Velma Smith, 79, of Mertens died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Houston. Velma was the daughter of Harry C. and Ollie Welch Pulliam. She was born June 7, 1931 in Oklahoma City, OK, where she was raised and graduated high school. On April 9, 1950 she married Rev. Bill Smith in Oklahoma City, and they lived there until moving to Jacksboro, TX in the mid 1960's. The couple served in many Baptist churches in Texas, including Whitney, Coolidge, and his home church of First Baptist in Mertens, where he served twice. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved nothing more then baking food for her family. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband on Oct. 13, 2004; two sisters; and a brother. Survivors include her children, Linda Smith and husband, Mike, of Coolidge, Billy Smith and wife, Karen, of Fort Smith, AR, and Ronny Smith and wife, Jo Linda, of Spring; brother-in-law, Bob Smith of Houston; nine grandchildren, Tonya Ward, Misty Phillips, Joshua Smith, Jennifer Clem, Jamie Williams, Evan and Andrew Smith, Brandi Wetegrove, and Crystal Ybarra; and twelve great-grandchildren.
