Antonio R. Villegas, 76, of Hillsboro passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at his residence. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father John Perikomalayil as celebrant. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Antonio was born on November 23, 1945, in Mexico, where he grew up, to Santiago and Juana (Rangel) Villegas. In the 1960’s, he migrated to the United States and worked as a rancher and fruit and vegetable picker. On July 8, 1971, Antonio was united in marriage to Maria Cruz Gutierrez. In 2000, they moved from Kansas to Texas. Antonio was an avid collector of antiques. He enjoyed his time with his family, especially playing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter-in-law, Angelica Villegas; and granddaughter, Michelle Villegas.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Maria Cruz Villegas; children, Alma L. Villegas and husband, Gregorio, Jorge R. Villegas and wife, Martha, Viviana Villegas and husband, Lucio, Ernesto Villegas, Juana Villegas and husband, Jose, and Antonio Villegas and wife, Yvette; brothers, Miguel Villegas, Santiago Villegas, Placido Villegas, and Jose Villegas; sister, Luz Villegas; 16 grandchildren, Caro, Jessy, Sandy, Jossy, Jorjito, Chris, Jenny, Marley, Netito, Jared, Stephany, Pame, Juan, Angel, Daislyn, and Daniel; and one great-grandson, Santiago.
