Barbara Evelyn (Barham) Athey

Barbara Evelyn (Barham) Athey of Whitney, passed away peacefully, on January 9, 2022. She had just turned 78 years old on December 30, 2021. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas with Pastor Robert Wilkinson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 -11:00 am, prior to services. Burial will be at the New Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury, Texas.

Barbara was born December 30, 1943, to Granville and Louise (Crouch) Barham in Hillsboro, Texas. She graduated high school in Hillsboro, Texas and attended Hill College. In June 1963, Barbara married Gerald Athey. They were married for 58 years. After their marriage, they relocated to Arlington, Texas where Barbara began working for UT Arlington Vandergriff Buick and Chevrolet. In 1969, she went to work for Lockheed Martin and worked there until she retired in 1999. After retirement, Barbara worked her "fun jobs" like dress shops and Blue Bell Ice Cream. 

Barbara loved working outside, fishing catch and release, and watching old movies. She was a faithful member of Bethel Bible Church where she lovingly served in many capacities. The family would love to thank the hospice staff for their love and care.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janice Herrin; and brother-in-law, Butch Herrin.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Gerald Athey; son, Tommy Athey; several nieces and nephews.
