Butch Ward, 57, of Whitney passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020, in Dallas. A graveside service under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Oak Grove Cemetery near Whitney with Dr. Alan Lane officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the funeral home in Whitney. A wake will be held at the Whitney Event Center from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021, in Whitney, Texas. Face masks and social distancing are required.
Butch was born on June 18, 1963, in Whitney to Thomas E. and Sybil Elaine (Sisk) Ward. He was raised in Whitney and graduated from Whitney High School in 1981. Butch was united in marriage to Vicki Denise McKinney on July 3, 1982, in Whitney. While in high school, he worked for Three Sons Paint and Body until 1982. He then went to work for Brown and Root, where he stayed for 14 years. He took two years off to serve as the treasurer for the Whitney Sports Association, then went to work for Vesuvius in Hillsboro for 10 years. In January of 1990, he bought the movie shop in Whitney. After leaving Vesuvius, he opened Smoke R Chew and was the current owner and operator. He prided himself for only having three jobs. He enjoyed fishing in his earlier days. He was a car enthusiast. His favorite thing to do was to ride his little tractor. Butch was a member of Prairie Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Ward; his parents, Tommy and Elaine Ward; children, Cameron Taylor and wife, Brittany, Ricky Ward and wife, Amanda, and Brandon Ward and wife, Jennifer; sister, Tammy Norton and husband, Richard; and 9 grandchildren.
