Donald Wray Rice

Donald Wray Rice, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at his home. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas.

He had the kindest, sweetest soul, with a smile that could light up a room. Loved by so many, Donald was born May 31, 1936, in Jawbone, Texas, to Johnnie Edward and Clara Hollingsworth Rice. He grew up in Hillsboro and attended Hillsboro High School. Donald entered the United States Army in 1954 and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He married the love of his life, Mary Lewis, on January 5, 1963. He retired from General Motors in Arlington, Texas, in 1998.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Edward and Clara Hollinsworth Rice; his brothers, Johnnie Frances Rice, Willie Dee Rice; his sister, Mae Grace Scarber; his father-in-law, Roy Lewis; his mother-in-law, Lucille Lewis; and his brothers-in-law, Grundy Ferrell Scarber, Butch Bailey, Charles Lewis, Billy Lewis, Shorty Lewis, and Ray Pope. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Rice; his daughter, Kimberly Rice-Martin; his granddaughter, Morgan Pettijohn and her husband, Michael; his great-granddaughter, Maycie Pettijohn; his sisters, Shirley Pope and JoAnn Davis; His brother, Tommye Rice and his wife Bettye; his sisters-in-law, Edith Rice, Betty Bailey, Claudette Lewis, and Joy Kuehl and her husband, Kelly; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends, whom he loved so much.
